SUMMARY:
Responsible for customer service, import/export documentation ; resolving cargo transportation needs and/or processing documentation within established deadlines.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is responsible for processing manifest import/export and documentation within established deadlines and regulatory requirements. Manage tasks involving the movement of goods in accordance with organizational policies. May receive, reconcile, consolidate and/or summarize documents and information from customers. May coordinate cargo movements with intermodal, equipment and traffic departments. May be required to interpret, review and apply appropriate rates to bills of lading based on the applicable tariffs in a timely and accurate manner, assuring compliance with appropriate rules and regulations. This position may include working in a call center environment. Customs applications knowledge. Pre alert of shipments. May be required to interpret, review and apply appropriate rates to bills of lading based on applicable tariffs timely and accurately while staying compliant with the rules and regulations.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent, with course work after high school and/or job-related training preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 2 – 5 years general office, transportation experience with knowledge of ocean documents, customs forms and regulations preferred.
TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word.
COMPETENCIES: Ability to communicate effective verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills. Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously while meeting assigned deadlines. Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Ability to perform accurately in a detail oriented environment. Ability to gather, interpret, report, and use data and other information concerning assigned activities. Ability to function effectively with or as part of a team. Skill in preparing clear and concise documents, including, but not limited to reports, procedures, correspondences, and other written materials. Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of import forwarding and customs brokerage in a domestic and/or international capacity. Knowledge of applicable computer applications and basic computer functions.
